3 Ways to Remind Your Customers You Are a Human, Too
Ultimately, business is about profit. That can be a pretty bleak outlook, though, if you start to see your customers as dollar signs and vice versa. We’ve talked about how to acknowledge your customers as human beings, but now it is time to talk about how to remind your customers you are a human, too!
You should always be helpful and be kind, of course, but you also need to make sure to show your clients and customers that you, and the people who make up your business, are real-life humans. You could showcase a charity that you are passionate about, display appreciation for employees and customers alike, or even talk about life outside of work on your business pages.
Remind Your Customers You are a Human by Being Charitable
You have something you are passionate about. Some need or service that you are willing to give both your time and money without a second thought.
As this article states, people love being able to see that the business they work with is involved in doing good in the world.
You may have already helped your customer, you may have already served them above and beyond their expectations…
…but for them to see you have a charity that you give to for more than a tax write-off, that will reassure them that they are, in fact, working with humans with blood pumping through their veins and passions that may not be obvious.
It’s a good feeling to help someone who helps others, right?
Display Appreciation for Your Fellow Humans
One way to make sure your customers are reminded you are a human is to take the time to be grateful and appreciative.
Think about it.
People love to see someone else be honored for something they did.
It’s why we love medals and trophies.
So remember that your employees like to be rewarded for their hard work. This could be showcasing them on social media profiles for their birthday or after a big accomplishment or just having a random “Employee Appreciation” post every now and then.
Your customers love to see that the people working with them are appreciated for the work they do.
Speaking of, don’t be afraid to appreciate specific customers, too.
Not every customer deserves the spotlight – we all know some of them are more difficult than they are worth – but the ones that do should be applauded for being gracious customers!
Those references and referrals will write themselves after that!
Remind Customers You Are a Human Outside of Work
These are all great ways to show your humanity from work.
If you want to drive it home to your customers that you truly are a human, then let them take a peek at your home life.
Share a family Christmas card to all your customers (sent from your work address, of course). Post a picture of you with your kids or pets or loved ones on social media every now and then. Write an email about a loss in your life and how it may affect your work, asking for grace and patience while wrestling with grief.
Showing your emotions and family life can be difficult, and we do want to have a health work-life balance – however, never letting customers see you for who you are is going to put a cap on your potential to grow raving superfans. They want to know the you they support is someone like them.
What Other Ways Can You Show Your Humanity?
These are three simple ways to remind your customers that you are a human, but there are so many other things you can do to accomplish this goal.
